The many homeless animals that enter our shelter every year are given a new chance to find their forever home because of your donations and the commitment of our volunteers. Your generosity allows us to provide direct care for over 1,000 animals each year plus help hundreds more throughout the community.

We are a private, non-profit 501(c) 3 organization which means all donations are tax deductible. We do not receive government funding and are not affiliated with any other animal shelter or humane society for financial support.

Donations provide essentials for day-to-day operations to keep the animals in our care warm, safe, and healthy as we work to find a loving home for them. Every donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated!

There are many ways you can donate. Please refer to the options listed on this page or contact us for more information about how you can help.

Establish your own Planned Giving Program

You can find comfort in saving lives and helping homeless animals while leaving a lasting legacy when you establish a personal, planned giving program. There are many ways to give that could also offer financial benefits including tax reduction or even lifetime income from a gift. For example, you can name the Humane Society of Livingston County in your estate when planning your will or trust. You can donate or transfer ownership of stocks, bonds, or other assets to HSLC. You could make an investment like a Charitable Gift Annuity or designate HSLC as the beneficiary for a life insurance policy. Please consult with your financial advisor for the methods of giving that are most appropriate for you.

No matter what you decide, we are very grateful you have considered doing something special for the Humane Society of Livingston County. Remember, no gift is "too small" -- even a modest investment or contribution can provide a steady income to pay for daily operations or special projects. If you have questions about finding ways to help our animals in need, please contact Barb Benford by phone: 517-552-8050, ext. 12 or email: barb@humane-livingston.org.

Donate Goods & Services

Do you have items that might be of use to the Humane Society?  Do you own or manage a business that could offer goods or services? Gifts can range from dog leashes or cat litter to gift certificates or items for raffles or auction at one of our fundraisers. Take a look at our Wish List for items we need most and drop them off during shelter hours.  We ask you to call before bringing any especially large or unusual items.

Donate by Shopping

Earn money for the HSLC without any added cost to you simply by shopping at the local or online stores listed here>>

Sponsor an Animal Cage at our Shelter

By sponsoring a cage at our shelter, you help ensure a safe, temporary home for a deserving pet until they find their forever, permanent home. You can sponsor a cat cage, small dog cage, or large dog run for one year or make a multiple year commitment. To acknowledge your generosity, a special plaque will be displayed on the door of your sponsored cage engraved with your business name and information or your own personal message. For current pricing and ordering information contact us or print and mail this Cage Sponsor Order Form to the HSLC along with your check or credit card information.

Purchase an Engraved Brick for our Memorial and Honor Wall

You can purchase a commemorative brick engraved with your personal message to be placed permanently in our garden or pathway area or taken home with you to commemorate a beloved person, pet, or special event. The bricks are offered in two sizes and proceeds will be used to help sustain the HSLC ensuring a future for our homeless pets. For current pricing and ordering information, contact us or print and mail this Brick Order Form to the HSLC along with your check or credit card information.

Memorials & Honorariums

Monetary gifts can be made in any amount and designated "In Honor Of" or "In Memory Of" a beloved pet or special person.  HSLC will send a special card acknowledging your gift to the person you specify. Your gift will not only honor a friend or loved one, but will help the many homeless animals served by the Humane Society of Livingston County. For more information, contact us or print and mail this Donation Form with your check or credit card information.

United Way Donations

You can designate the HSLC as the recipient of your United Way donations. For more information, contact your local United Way Foundation.

Employer Matching Gift Programs

Many employers offer "matching gift programs" and will contribute additional money as an incentive to encourage their employees to donate money or volunteer time to charitable organizations. Check with your employer to find out if they participate in this type of program.

Volunteer

Volunteers are invaluable to the shelter operations, whether it's in the capacity of walking dogs, assisting with office work, socializing cats, working at fund-raisers or serving on our board of directors. And, we always need volunteers! If you would like to make a difference improving the lives of animals by giving a much appreciated gift of your time and talents, consider joining us! Community Partnerships

The local community is the backbone and also the beneficiary of our shelter operations. If you manage a business, lead a youth group, or are influential in other organizations, consider partnering with the HSLC to support our mission. We have several events each year offering advertising opportunities through corporate sponsorship. We welcome your ideas on working together to benefit your business, build community involvement, and generate donations for our homeless pets. Here are some of our current Community Partners>>.

Other Ways You Can Help HSLC

If you can give just a few hours each month, we will find a way for you to contribute and feel good about supporting our mission. Are you hosting an event or part of a group that would like to raise awareness and donations for homeless pets? Maybe you would just like to spend time away from your normal routine and provide comfort to a grateful animal companion? There are lots of ways kids can help too. Here are some ideas to help you get started. Learn more>>

Every effort, no matter how small, can make a difference in the lives of your pets & our community!

  • Spay or neuter your pet.
  • Talk to your friends, neighbors and family about spaying or neutering their pets.
  • Keep your pets up to date on their vaccinations.
  • Educate your children about proper pet care.
  • Keep an identification tag on your pet and take pictures to be used if they ever get lost.
  • Never leave your pet in a car on a HOT or COLD day.
  • Clean up your antifreeze puddles--it's poison
  • Don't let your pet ride loose in the back of a pickup truck.
  • Always have your dog on a leash
  • Eliminate dog bites--ask before you or your child pets an unknown animal.
  • Leave wild animals in the wild.
  • Call your local Animal Control Department if you see a case of animal cruelty or neglect.
  • Stop if you see an animal hit by a car or needing emergency help and, in Livingston County, call 911.
  • Treat animals the way you would want to be treated if you were them.
  • Give your pets a hug and tell them you love them every day!
