CAT CAMPAIGN - MAJOR DONORS

We would like to recognize and thank all of our generous campaign donors.
Your support has made this project possible and will be appreciated by our cats for many years to come!

Cat Campaign Home - Cage Free Cat Logo

Initial funding of $35,000 for this project was donated by...

We have many generous "Friends of the HSLC" who prefer to donate anonymously. In this case, our "Friend" was a life long resident of Livingston County who was truly an advocate for homeless pets in our community and long time supporter of the HSLC mission. She spent many hours caring for pets at our shelter and generously donated to the HSLC for many years. Caring for pets was always an important part of her life providing a loving home, preventative vaccines, and ALWAYS spaying and neutering.

Our Friend's Cat, Sox

Like so many of our supporters, this special Friend had great compassion for animals that did not have a permanent home and, because she lived in a rural area, was able to care for many pets on her own property over the years that had been surrendered or abandoned by their owners. The last few years of her life, she shared her home with two large dogs and a cat that she adopted when they were unwanted. When she passed away in 2008, we were able to fulfill her wishes that her beloved 2 dogs and cat be placed with and cared for by a Humane Society staff member.

"Until one has loved an animal,
a part of the soul remains unawakened
."

Our Friend's cat, Sox

When the HSLC shelter was built in 2003, our Friend felt strongly that the dogs should have room to exercise while they remained at the shelter. Outside play areas were part of our plans, but the HSLC did not have funds to build them when the shelter first opened. After finding this out, she donated $35,000 for the play yards to be constructed with large fenced areas for the dogs to get plenty of fresh air and exercise in a protected environment.

Her compassion for cats was just as strong and she later donated another $35,000 requesting that we provide an additional area where cats could get exercise and a break from the cages to make their stay here as comfortable and stress free as possible. After evaluating ways to make this happen, the HSLC arrived at the plan for cage-free living space as the best alternative. Her donation will cover over one-third of the cost of this project. We are grateful now to honor our Friend's request!
